Ric Duffield – Wildlife Artist

Ric Duffield is a renowned wildlife artist whose captivating and lifelike depictions of the natural world have earned him a distinguished place in the realm of wildlife art.

Born in Wensleydale, North Yorkshire, with a deep passion for nature and a keen eye for detail, Duffield was drawing or painting wildlife from a very early age, and has spent a lifetime translating his love for the wilderness into breath-taking works of art that inspire and educate. He has even been commissioned to carry out work for Yorkshire Television.

One of the defining features of Duffield’s work is his commitment to authenticity. Known for spending countless hours in the field, studying animals in their natural habitats and capturing their essence with meticulous precision. It is this hands-on approach that sets him apart, as it allows him to convey not only the physical characteristics of the creatures but also their behaviour and interactions within their ecosystems.

In his early years, he studied art and music at teacher training college in the 1970s and later went on to become an illustrator. In 2000, Ric became a freelance artist, and while still exhibiting fine art in galleries across the country, he became renowned for his scenic work, using techniques and specialist knowledge to replicate images large and small with intricate detail. He also specialises in marbling, ageing, optical illusions and much more.

Beyond the aesthetic appeal, Duffield’s work serves a broader purpose – conservation and education. He strives to raise awareness about the importance of preserving biodiversity and protecting endangered species through his art. Often collaborating with conservation organisations, Duffield donates portions of his proceeds to support wildlife conservation efforts.

Over the years, Ric Duffield’s talent and dedication have garnered him numerous accolades and exhibitions worldwide. His works are found in both private collections as well as a range of museums including the Royal Armouries, National Railway Museum, Tower of London, and Castle Museum in York.

Ric Duffield is more than just a wildlife artist; he is a storyteller, a conservationist, and a steward of the Earth’s beauty. Through his art, he invites us to appreciate the intricacies of the natural world and reminds us of our responsibility to protect and preserve the wonders that surround us.
